On Sunday 2nd April we will be having Baptism and Confirmation services!

Baptisms
We have baptisms scheduled at Morning Church (and are also happy to have baptisms at Arvo Church and EC). If you have not been baptised and are keen to be baptised, or investigate being baptised, please let us know.

Confirmation
We will also be having a Confirmation Service with Bishop Chris Edwards at EC. Confirmation is an opportunity for those who have already been baptised to publicly confirm their faith in Jesus. We will be running a course/classes for those who are getting confirmed, in the 4 weeks leading up to the Confirmation Service.

Next term, Christ Church will host our next range of Mission invitations - Who will you invite?

We are living in perhaps the most unprecedented opportunity for evangelism in our lives - you can literally invite anyone; anywhere in the world to explore Jesus; many people’s confidence is shaken; and, many people's schedules are wide open. So now is your opportunity to be bold and turn those prayers you have been praying for people you love into an invitation. Our friends can never say ‘yes’ or ’no’ unless we invite them.

Be bold, trust God, love people and invite someone to one or both of these:

(a) Sunday 11 October – Invitational 9:30am | 6:00pm services

Across our Sunday Services, we will simply be opening the bibles to Matthew 4 to look at the famous story of Jesus in the desert. Christians know this as a story where Jesus demonstrates that he is the faithful Son of God, able to ultimately bring us to God. But it is a story that is accessible to those who are exploring God too. The trials and temptations Jesus suffers in his isolation will resonate with many people in our current times. Jesus helps His people to trust God in the desert, and those who don’t yet believe are invited to come and worship God.

Here’s an email or text or social media invitation:

“Hello, my church holds invitational church services regularly – our next one is on Sunday 11 October. We’re looking at the famous passage where Jesus, all by himself, is tempted in the desert. Given the isolating times we’re all going through at the moment, I thought I might reach out and see if you were interested joining me and hearing about how Jesus trusted God during that time. Let me know.”

(b) Christianity Explored

In term 4, we’re running two Courses: Sunday 18 October, 9:30am (in person) or Monday 19 October, 7:30-9:00pm (online). All information about the courses can be found on our website: www.christchurch.org.au

What will CE Online be like? 7:30-9:00pm on Monday nights hosted through Zoom, hosted by Andrew Levy and others. All you will need is a device with internet access and audio. If you can register ahead of time, we will send the booklet and gospel of Mark to you ahead of time.

• All along we have been endeavouring to honour both the letter and the intention of the restrictions with integrity.  

• Constant contact with diocesan leadership who are getting their advice directly from the government.

• It should be noted that at this point the government is wanting all work to continue as much as possible (describing all work as ‘essential’), and this includes the work of churches.

• Staff and regular volunteers producing an online live stream service or pre-recorded service (or the youth and kids ministry equivalent) is considered by the government to be ‘work’ and not a public meeting.  Any people who are not part of that production are not permitted to be present, and those who are must maintain strict social distancing.  

• In addition we are also making sure that all rooms on site have limits on who can be in them to maintain 4m2 distancing, and no more than 10 people will be allowed to be present in any room at any time, even in a room as large as our church building.  That is why we have reduced the size of the bands to a maximum of 5 (including singers) and cut down to one Bible reader and one prayer person. You will also observe that we are using two locations for our live stream this Sunday (the church building and the crypt) to limit numbers present in any one place. 

  • We are expecting contact to be restricted further soon so that even our current live-stream will not be able to continue and so have pre-recorded many songs prior to the tightening from last Thursday so that when the time comes that all social contact is prohibited we can still produce services by individuals filming their sermons/prayers etc. in their own home and the whole package being edited together with the pre-recorded music.

• Weddings and funerals have restrictions placed on them.  Funerals are still allowed to have guests (to the limit of 10 present) but weddings at this point are restricted to the bare minimum needed to make the wedding legal: the couple, the celebrant, and two witnesses.  This is likely to be an emotionally distressing restriction for those directly impacted in these two areas so please be praying for God’s peace and comfort on those whose funerals or weddings will be very different to what they had planned or desired.
